1990: Contribution to Old Age Home:

The true spirit of KKK was once again displayed when money carried forward from the previous years was unanimously decided to donate it to an old people’s home in India. Dr. Aravinda Rao suggested one such organization near Mangalore and he donated the money during his visit to India.

1997: Art workshop for KKK children:

Through Mr Vasuki’s contact we invited Mr Ravi Varma, an accomplished, renowned artist for his thread work painting from Bangalore to conduct workshop for the KKK members, members of Indian community school, and Carmel School Kuwait. Further, we organized a presentation of his work in Kuwait Art Association where his work was greatly appreciated. The workshop was a huge success and school children enjoyed and learned tips and techniques for drawing.

1999: Contribution to Army Welfare Fund and Care Today Fund:

Perhaps the year 1999 will best be remembered, at least in India, for 2 major events – the Kargil intrusion and the Orissa Cyclone. KKK rose to the occasion by organizing a special fund raising drive whereby approximately INR 2,16,000 was contributed to the Army Central Welfare Fund. Also, an amount of INR 50,000 was contributed by the Koota towards ‘India Today’ magazine’s Care Today Fund for rehabilitating survivors of the Orissa Cyclone.

2001: Gujarat Relief Fund

In response to our Prime Minister’s appeal through His Excellency, The Indian Ambassador to Kuwait, the Koota members contributed generously for the ‘Gujarat Relief Fund’.

2002: Special Talk – Studies in USA

Keeping in mind the youth of the Koota, the Executive Committee organised a special talk on the topic “ Studies in USA”. This was presented by Mr. Iyengar and proved very useful for the youth of the Koota for further study in the USA.

2006: Inauguration of Suvarna Mahotsava Celebrations-Inter School Talent Competition

The Suvarna Mahotsava of Karnataka statehood was inaugurated on the 12th of May at the Indian Community School Khaitan. It was an outreach program with the involvement of the Indian community.

Such a Community outreach program, involving many Indian Schools, was the first of its kind in the history of the Koota. The Koota arranged Interschool quiz, folk dance and patriotic song singing competitions on that day.

Mr Juzair Ali of Wadi Sakef Group and Mr. Kuldip Lamba of Al-Mailem group sponsored the event. The Kuwait airways and the Jet airways contributed by bringing in the Quiz master from Bangalore. After the Quiz competition, group Patriotic song singing competition was held where, nine schools participated. This closely followed by the Group Folk Dance competitions with colourful ethnic flavour. The children rendered the patriotic songs beautifully with great passion and emotion. An energy-packed extravaganza of colourful and rhythmic medley of folk dances.The Programme was presented for about 20 minutes, was presented by the Kuwait Kannada Koota members that left the audience spell bound. HE Ambassador of India to Kuwait, Mr. M Ganapathi was the Chief guest of the evening function of Inauguration of the Suvarna Mahotsava Celebrations which started at 7 PM. Mrs. Uma Ganapathi wife of HE Mr. M Ganapathi also joined along with the sponsors and the members of the Executive Committee of the Koota. The prizes were distributed to the winning teams and the program was appreciated by all the children and staff of the schools which participated.

2007: World Kannada Cultural Convention 2007

The World Kannada Cultural Convention was inaugurated in Kuwait under the president ship of Rashtrakavi Shri G. S. Shivarudrappa on 30th Nov 2007 at Dr. Kamel Al-Rayees Auditorium of American International School, Kuwait, with lot of pomp and show and got concluded on 1st December 2007. The event was hosted by Kuwait Kannada Koota (KKK) under the president ship of Sudhakar Shetty in association with Hridayavahini from Karnataka.

The mega event started with the invocation dance “Ganesh Puspanjali, patriotic Kannada song and welcome address by KKK President Mr. Sudhakar Shetty. Convention President Rashtrakavi Dr. G.S Shivarudrappa inaugurated the historical cultural festival by lighting the lamp. HE Mr. M. Ganapathy, the ambassador of India to Kuwait was the chief guest. Other dignitaries like Mr. C.T Ravi, MLA from Chikkamagaluru, HE Mr. Essa Al-Essa, Ex-ambassador to India from Kuwait, Mr. B R Shetty industrialist from Abu Dhabi, Dr. K. A. Ashok Pai renowned Social Worker, Mr. Mahesh Joshi Director of Door darshan had graced the occasion. Sports Day Kannada Rajyotsava Sports Day Kannada Rajyotsava K.P. Manjunath Sagar- President Cultural committee delivered the introductory speech. Prominent personalities of Karnataka were honored in recognition of their achievements in various fields, with traditional shawl, memento and flower bouquet. Mrs. Sandhya Pai, Manipal (Media); Mr. H. Rangayya, Bangalore (Social service); Mr. Srinivas Bellur, Kenya (Service to Kannada); Mr. C.R. Simha, Bangalore (Acting); Mr. Kumar Kuntikana Matt, London, (Service to Kannada); Mr. Prakash Payyar, Dubai (Service to Kannada); Miss. Manasi Prasad,Bangalore(Music); Mrs. Rangashree, Kuwait (Dance); Kannadave Sathya Mr. Prabhakar, Bangalore, (Service to Kannada); Mr. Kolar Ramesh, Kolar (Bharatanatya); Smt Sahana Bhat, Sirsi (Bharatanatya); Mrs. Chudamani Ramachandra, Sagar (Dollukunita) were among the honored. B. Ganesh Rao Bangalore delivered vote of thanks.

This was followed by various cultural programs. Cute tiny tots to lovely kids of Kuwait Kannada Koota along with numerous artists from Karnataka and as well as other parts of the world took part in the great cultural show. Nearly 250 participants entertained the audience running in thousands, continuously for two days. Various Nrutya Rupakas were presented by Miss. Manasi Prasad of Bengaluru, Mrs. Rangashree of Kinkini, Bangalore – Kuwait chapter, Sirsi’s Natyanjali Kala Kendra, Mr. D.Keshava of Switzerland, Jaya Natya kala Academy of Kolar and Kadri Nrutya Vidyalaya of Mangaluru. Young girl Kavya performed the exquisite lamp dance while Miss. Manjusree & Miss. Meghana of Sirsi, performed mohiniattam. People were enthralled by the portrayal of Dr. Kuvempu by none other than Mr. C.R.Simha the veteran of the Cine world. Bharata Darshanawas presented by Kuwait Tulu Koota that showcased different Indian state cultures which was enchanting. Elderly ladies from Sneha Sagar Women’s League of Sagara, enthralled the audience with Dollu Kunita. Doddata was added attraction.

There were discussions on various Forums like Poetry presided by Mr.Manu Baligar, Media presided by Mr. E.V. Satyanaraya, Health presided by Dr. Padmini Prakash, Industry presided by Sri. M.B. Jayaram and Humour presided by Dr. Putturaya Puttur. The grand world Kannada Cultural Convention continued on 1st December 2007 with invocation song by Manasi Prasad, followed by NRI Kannadiga forum (Presented by B.V.Nagaraj, Sarvottama Shetty and Arvind Patil) and poetry forum by various poets. Sarvottam Shetty presented all the NRI’s problems most effectively and was appreciated by the crowd widely. Globalman Award-2007, was presented to the eminent Kannadigas in different fields such as: Mr. M. Krishnamurthy, America (for Philanthropy); Mr. D. Keshava, Switzerland (for Dance); Mr. B.V.Nagaraj, Canada (for Media); Mr. Rajkumar, Bahrain (for Service to Kannada); Mr. Sarvothama Shetty, Abu Dhabhi (for Social service);Dr. Tarakanath, Kuwait (for service to Kannada); Mr.S.S. Alur, Qatar (for Civil Engineering); Mrs. Bhuvaneshwari Nagaraj,Qatar (for Music); Mr. A. Sadananda Shetty, Mangalore (for Education); Dr. Mahesh Joshi, Bangalore (for Media); Mr. R.P. Ravishankar, Bangalore(for Co-operation); Mr. S.G. Umarani, Bangalore (for Social service,); Mr. Narendra Rai M.B., Haryana (for Banking); Mrs. Kamaleshwari Ramesh, Bangalore (for Social service); Mr. Mahadeva P. Varsha, Bangalore (for Personality Development); Mrs. Nandini Shirahatti, Kadur (for Education).

The cultural program of the second day consisted of Kuchupudi (Manjushri & Meghana- Sirsi), Dance by Kalaniketana bharatanatya school- malur, Musical Dance by Manasi Prasad, dances by Kinkini Group Bangalore & Natyanjali Kala Kshetra-Sirsi, Yakshagana by kids, and Srinivasa Kalyana Skit by KKK members. The highlight of the event was Yakshagana performed by the Koota Kids The tiny tots mesmerized the whole audience through their enactment and colorful costumes. The screen came down on the second day of the event through the Magnum Opus skit “Sri Srinivasa Kalyana” that was presented by the Koota members through their dazzling costumes. Mr. Virendra Babu, General Secretary delivered a vote of thanks to all those who have contributed to the success of the event. The historical colorful two days program came to an end with grand delectable dinner.

2010: Donation to Aruna Chetana School for differently abled children

During this year Koota donated Rupees ten lakhs to a Aruna Chetana School for differently abled children in Malleswaram, Bangalore for construction of the 1st floor of the school building.

2015: Cardiac Care seminar and Sitar Recital

Koota organizied an “Outreach Program “on Cardiac Care with the support of Indain Doctors Forum Kuwait.Thevent was inaugurated by HE Shri Sunil Jain, Ambassdor of India to Kuwait. The Seminar was intended to help Indian Community by providing awareness about proper health and life style care to conserve heart functions and timely actions in case of emergency. Following this seminar, a program of Sitar Recital, to experience the soothing effect of Music on body and mind, was arranged. The rendition of Sitar Recital was presented by the famous “Khan Brothers” – Ustad Rais Bale Khan and Ustad Hafiz Bale Khan hailing from Karnataka and belonging to the Kirana and Dharwad Gharana, accompanied on Tabla by an eminent artist from Bangalore Mr. Adarsh Shenoy.

2016: Honouring Martyr Soldiers

On February 3, 10 soldiers, were hit by an avalanche at an altitude of 19,600 feet in Siachen. Sepoy Mahesha from H.D. Kote, Mysuru district, and Subedar T.T. Nagesha at Tejur in Hassan district were dashed with the Army confirming their deaths. Lance Naik Hanumanthappa’s miraculous rescue triggered celebrations in Indians all around the world, but did not last for long. Lance Naik Hanumanthappa passed away on 11th of February 2016. Members of KKK and KKK took an initiative to collect the money and gave a finical aid for the families of soldiers of Rs.1 lakhs each. The Cheque was handed over on 10th of sept in Bangalore and 15th Sept in hubli.

2016: Honouring BV Narayan, Cyclist

He is a handicap motorbike, Indian national B V Narayan set off from the city of Bangalore in February 2015 on a single-minded, globetrotting mission to create awareness about safe driving. An ex-cyclist and handicapped, he arrived in Kuwait from Bahrain on March 6 as part of his expedition to cover 25 countries. KKK honoured him to encourage him by collecting money and handed over to him.
